Exemptions from WPE Experiential Learning Modules

From the new student intake of the academic year 2013/14 onward UIC students are required to earn4 units of Whole Person Education Experiential Learning (WPEX) modules. To do so students follow the WPEX study plan.

However certain categories of students who do not complete all 4 years of their study at UIC may be unable to take all required WPEX modules and earn all 4 units.

  1. Students transferred from another institution with direct entry to Year 2
These students are exempted from WPEX modules offered in Year 1 (i.e. WPEX1003,WPEX1013). They are required to earn at least 2 units, by following the WPEX study plan from Year 2 onward.

  2. Students transferred from another institution with direct entry to Year 3
These students are exempted from WPEX modules offered in Year 1 (i.e. WPEX1003,WPEX1013). They are required to earn at least 2 units, by making up any 2 of the WPEX modules normally offered in Year 2 (i.e. WPEX2003, WPEX2013, WPEX2023, WPEX2033).

  3. Exchange-out students studying at another institution for one semester
These students are not exempted, but have to make up any WPEX module they have missed during their exchange semester.

  4. Exchange-out students studying at another institution for one year during Year 2
These students are exempted from 1 WPEX module offered in Year 2. They are required to earn at least 3 units by making up any 1 of the WPEX modules normally offered in Year 2 (i.e.WPEX2003, WPEX2013, WPEX2023, WPEX2033).

  5. Exchange-in students studying at UIC for one semester or one year
These students are not required to earn WPEX units. However they are allowed to take any WPEX module(s) offered, upon individual application through AR.

  6. Students with health impairment
Students who are unable to attend certain physical or psychical exercises of WPEX modules and provide the related medical documents may be exempted from these exercises or the entire WPEX module(s). Students should appeal through AR to WPEO, and each case will be dealt with individually.

  7. Students on suspension
These students are not exempted, but have to make up any WPEX module(s) they have missed during their suspension period.

The above revised exemption policy applies to student cohorts 2013-2014 and onward.
For student cohorts 2012-2013 and before the previous WPE exemption policyis still valid.
