Course Description

This course aims to give students a fundamental knowledge of three-dimensional (3D)  design that applies across many disciplines. This includes an understanding of the basic elements and principles of 3D design, working knowledge of the physical characteristics and inherent meaning of materials, the relationship between form and function, structural principles and an introduction to digital modelling technologies.

Students will be introduced to a range of materials and be required to think of design as a process resulting in a product with functional goals and aesthetic concerns. Students will synthesize their concepts and develop design skills in studio projects with multiple components of the design process. Students will be graded on the process and the final product.


Course Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to

· Describe and Explain thoroughly and critically the theory, history, and practice relevant to the field;

· Integrate and Apply knowledge, skill, and technical proficiency within professional and academic contexts in accord with a well-developed sense of social consciousness and professional/ethical responsibility;

· Demonstrate an advanced level of communication and problem solving skills as a team player/leader;

· Apply the knowledge and skills required with aesthetic sensibility and cultural literacy to create, develop or fabricate artifacts of various kinds relevant to the field to a high technical and creative standard;

· Develop a lifelong self-development plan in response to the social needs locally and internationally.

  1. RMB5,000 for UIC, HKBU and HKCHC students;

  2. RMB7,500 for the students from other colleges/ universities.


Accomodation Fee

  1. UIC students (Non-graduates): RMB10/ Person/ Day

  2. UIC graduates: RMB60/ Person/ Day

  3. HKBU, HKCHC and other students: RMB60/ Person/ Day


Note: The standard fee for summer accommodation in student hostel for 2025 is subject to final confirmation.
