Unit Bearing Information

Course Description

Followed by Reporting Lab I/II, Advanced Reporting and Editing, and internship, this course serves as the introduction to the skills and disciplines of reporting and writing for media. It provides a comprehensive yet stepwise introduction to the basic principles and practices of journalism for different media platforms.

To optimise the interaction between this course, laboratory work and internships, while meeting the needs of students studying journalism in a second language, the sequence of courses treats reporting, and feature writing as two facets of the core activity. The two activities develop in parallel as each student gains in practical experience and in language ability. Topics introduced early on are taken up again later in Advanced Reporting and Writing at higher levels of complexity and greater depth within this progressive framework.
