Course Description
This foundation course is designed for beginners who have never studied Japanese before. The Japanese phonetic system, writing system, basic greetings, sentence structures and practical vocabulary that are suitable for beginners will be introduced in this course. It also provides opportunities for students to understand Japanese culture, and to develop the ability to communicate in basic Japanese such as introducing oneself, daily expressions, telling the time and the date and talking about one’s daily life. Students’ active participation in classroom activities is expected.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to
· Apply Japanese pronunciation and intonation for basic oral communication skills and strategies in different media and contexts;
· Write simple texts, for example dialogues, messages, postcards and e-mails referring to present situations;
· Display intercultural competence appropriate to the course level.

A student who is currently studying for a bachelor degree.

RMB5,000 for UIC, HKBU and HKCHC students;
RMB7,500 for the students from other colleges/ universities.
Accomodation Fee
UIC students (Non-graduates): RMB10/ Person/ Day
UIC graduates: RMB60/ Person/ Day
HKBU, HKCHC and other students: RMB60/ Person/ Day
Note: The standard fee for summer accommodation in student hostel for 2025 is subject to final confirmation.
