Course Description
This course aims to give non-business students an understanding of the role that business plays in society as well as providing them with meaningful and real-world-oriented information about how businesses function and their rights and responsibilities in society. A wide range of business topics will be covered to increase the students’ awareness of the role of business in society. This course will also help the student understand the issues that corporations and professional managers experience. As this course introduces students to an array of principles and new perspectives that will encourage critical thinking to contest their pre-existing ideas and beliefs, it will help them throughout their careers, either as an employee or as a manager.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to
· Identify business issues and different types of governmental, legal, political and economic systems that impact business;
· Compare the various options of organising a business vis-à-vis the different basic society issues arising from the emergence of business e.g., force of changes such as globalisation, IT, etc., which impact on business and in turn on the individual and society;
· Describe the role of management in the success of a business and different management styles and theories about motivation of employees;
· Discuss different business functions such as marketing, finance and accounting functions and how they are interrelated and contribute to the success of a business.

RMB5,000 for BNBU, HKBU and HKCHC students;
RMB7,500 for the students from other colleges/ universities.
Accomodation Fee
BNBU students (Non-graduates): RMB10/ Person/ Day
BNBU graduates: RMB60/ Person/ Day
HKBU, HKCHC and other students: RMB60/ Person/ Day
Note: The standard fee for summer accommodation in student hostel for 2026 is subject to final confirmation.
