Course Description

The course aims at introducing to students the major features of Arts, Design and Aesthetics in peoples’ everyday life. Everyday aesthetics (or ‘life as art, Zachary, 2012) continues the trajectory of widening scope by including design objects, art events, and activities that constitute people’s daily life. The course will also analyze the notion of aesthetic experience, for example painting, sculpture, interior design, architectural studies, fashion and new media, and help students to apply relevant theories and design thinking into the development of their own lifestyle, artistic life and professional discipline.


Course Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to

· Identify the major features and thinking of art, design, and aesthetics in terms of Everyday Life;

· Analyze the key theories and issues in art, design, and aesthetics;

· Evaluate the characteristics, interests and challenges from Arts, Design and Aesthetics;

· Apply relevant theories in a holistic manner in regard to the development of cultural, creative, and professional life of students.

  1. RMB5,000 for UIC, HKBU and HKCHC students;

  2. RMB7,500 for the students from other colleges/ universities.


Accomodation Fee

  1. UIC students (Non-graduates): RMB10/ Person/ Day

  2. UIC graduates: RMB60/ Person/ Day

  3. HKBU, HKCHC and other students: RMB60/ Person/ Day


Note: The standard fee for summer accommodation in student hostel for 2025 is subject to final confirmation.
