Course Description

This course aims to enable students to explore and evaluate the knowledge, techniques, and fundamental skills necessary for audiovisual translation (AVT). AVT includes inter-lingual translation such as subtitling, dubbing, and voice-over, as well as intra-lingual and inter-semiotic translation, including audio description for the partially sighted and subtitling for the hard-of-hearing. Additionally, the course will equip students with the necessary technology skills that aid and facilitate their completion of practical AVT tasks in daily life.


Course Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to

· Describe the knowledge related to different types of audiovisual translation and the socio-cultural, linguistic, and technical aspects of audiovisual translation;

· Apply critical skills and practical techniques to audiovisual translation in the professional market;

· Build technical expertise in the latest computer software used for practical audiovisual translation tasks;

· Synthesize various tools in real-life audiovisual translation projects in relation to the various genres of movies or television programmes in their respective appropriate styles.

Course Fee

  1. RMB5,000 for UIC, HKBU and HKCHC students;

  2. RMB7,500 for the students from other colleges/ universities.


Accomodation Fee

  1. UIC students (Non-graduates): RMB10/ Person/ Day

  2. UIC graduates: RMB60/ Person/ Day

  3. HKBU, HKCHC and other students: RMB60/ Person/ Day


Note: The standard fee for summer accommodation in student hostel for 2025 is subject to final confirmation.
